Vinnies Gungahlin opens for business

Retro quilted shift dress and vintage micro bag from Vinnies

I’ve been loitering around the Vinnies store in Gungahlin for the last few months, peeking in the window eagerly awaiting it’s opening so I was pretty chuffed to be invited along to a special bloggers preview launch this morning.  I am not exaggerating when I say it is THE BEST thrift shop I have ever been in, hands down.  The shop is clean, well lit, immaculately organised and even the mannequins are styled in amazing outfits.  I had so much fun!!

Open now!  Hibberson Street, Gungahlin.  Just under Bunnings.

Store manager Aaron explained they are taking a more restrained approach to stock levels in this store, rather than aiming for mass quantities of clothing jammed onto it’s racks.  You can really feel the difference,  browsing the racks was so easy, the aisles are wide and pram friendly (yes, bubs attended his first grand opening!) and items are categorised perfectly by type and size.  I felt no sense of anxiety that I sometimes experience when thrift shopping due to the overwhelming task of having to get down on hand and knee to dig through baskets or struggle to pull items off over-laden racks, it was so easy.  Even access is a breeze with parking directly in front of the store on Hibberson Street or directly behind the store via the ground level of the Bunnings undercover carpark when raining.

They are also taking collections at the store so if you have unwanted clothes, crockery, books, toys etc you can easily drop them off in the collection trolleys placed outside the door, no need to try fit everything through the tiny flap at the top of charity bins!

Perfect if you are moving out for the first time and need kitchenware

Some really unique high quality pieces… Including these genuine leather boots, saddle bag and this real fox fur stole (those eyes would give me nightmares)
Just the cutest little vintage handmade leather baby shoes
Beautiful wool coat by Aquascutum, a British label that tailors for the Queen, I estimate would RRP for over $1000 brand new, unfortunately did not fit 🙁
Plenty of reading material for the book worms!
This is way nicer than the dining table we have at home, made from solid timber and in such good condition
Mini Schnapper testing out the toys section… He approves.
Watches beautifully displayed
There are some real gems in store!  Michael Kors bag.
Even a little collection of Air Force 1’s!  This store has everything.
I really enjoyed chatting to Aaron the store manager who clearly has a clear passion for fashion and is extremely knowledgeable about all things vintage.  He showed me a couple of amazing pieces in store including a Diane Von Furstenberg dress!  It’s clear that this Vinnies is focused on fashion just by looking at the immaculately styled mannequins in store.  Aaron really is a breath of fresh air for the Vinnies chain and I am excited to see if other store around the country evolve in the same way.  The staff and volunteers have done an amazing job setting up the store and I urge everyone to check it out!!
Ink and Leathers was the first paying customer and I was the second, but he forgot to take a photo so it never really happened.  Therefore I am the first paying customer!!
Below is the outfit I styled using the purchases I made this morning.  I picked up a thick quilted shift dress that is perfect for the encroaching winter.  I’ve layered it over a plain black skivvy and paired with my thigh high suede flats by Public Desire.  When it gets a bit colder would layer over a pair of opaque tights.  I also picked up a little micro bag, perfect for carrying just the necessities and is ever so lady-like.
