Faces of Fashfest 2015 revealed!

If you have been following me on Facebook you may of seen photos of the MASSIVE model casting for Fashfest I photographed earlier this month.  This is Fashfest’s 3rd year and the popularity of the fashion event has sky-rocketed with a record-breaking 300 hopeful models attending.

This year two models have been selected as The Faces of Fashfest, one male and one female.  While the casting attracted models from Sydney, Melbourne, Brisbane and Adelaide, both Faces are from Canberra, not because they live here but because they ‘shone on the catwalk’, says Andrea Hutchinson, co-founder of FASHFEST and HAUS Models. ‘They have real presence on the catwalk, are confident and professional. The judges were unanimous in their decisions.’  The two lucky models will work closely with Fashfest to develop their skills and will also win a year contract with Canberra-based HAUS Models and also Sydney’s WINK Models to advance their careers.
So without further ado, introducing 21 year old Ken Scruton as the male Face of Fashfest 2015!  Ken was born in Canberra and is in his 3rd year of a Bachelor degree at University of Canberra studying exercise physiology.  Ken modelled on the catwalk in Fashfest’s opening year walking for local designers Perpetually Five and SZN.  ‘Inside, I was more nervous than I had been at any time of my life when on the catwalk,’ says Ken. ‘But it was an amazing experience.’

17 year old Hannah Clare McKenzie is the female Face of Fashfest.  Hannah is a year 12 student at Dickson College and is passionate about performance taking singing, dancing and acting lessons from an early age.  Hannah’s first taste of modelling was when she helped out a CIT (Canberra Institute of Technology) photography student.  ‘It gave me a taste of something I had never experienced before, and I loved every second of it,’ says Hannah.  Following on from this she has dabbled in freelance collaborations with photography and makeup students, walking the catwalk for CIT and Dickson College fashion design students.  ‘I enjoy the challenge of being given an idea to work with and being able to help designers fulfil their visions,’ says Hannah. ‘Being part of bringing to life a designer’s inspiration and dream is a privilege and an amazing experience.’

This year’s Fashfest will be held at an all new venue (with heating!!) at the National Convention Centre which will be brought to life for Elite Sound and Lighting.  This is exciting news for those of us who don’t want a little thing like Canberra’s arctic winter nights getting in the way of a rocking outfit!

FASHFEST 2015 will run from 13 – 16 May – Block out your calendars!!
