Ashani Madola is the brains behind the new label All Eyes On Us. Actually not just brains… designer, machinist, pattern maker, fabric-sourcer to name a few of her hats… She is literally a one woman show about to hit the runway for the first time showcasing her very own collection of glamorous evening and cocktail wear. Husband Chanaka Herath helps out where he can with social media and branding but laughingly admits he is a complete fashion novice.

Ashani is a new arrival to Canberra having only moved here 5 months ago with her Canberra based husband Chanaka from Dubai and you would think that designing a 10 garment collection would not exactly be at the top of her priority list after a big overseas move but this driven young woman is determined to make a name for herself in her new home.
Having graduated from The Raffles Design Institute in Singapore Ashani then went on to work in Dubai designing for lingerie and sleepwear brand Nayomi. I asked her what it was like to live in two powerhouse fashion capitals and then land in Canberra where our fashion scene by comparison is still in it’s infancy. “It’s actually wonderful, everyone I have met through Fashfest has been so helpful and welcoming and there is a real sense of cooperation. Launching a label in a place like Canberra offers benefits such a higher chance of recognition compared to the larger cities.”
Inspiration comes in many forms for Ashani, from the music she listens to, to the places she has travelled. She is also a talented artist letting her fashion and creativity flow over onto paper. With the launch of her first collection she hopes to launch her website with online shopping capabilities, watch this space – http://alleyesonus.com.au/

So what can we expect from the All Eyes on Us collection at Fashfest? Above all else Ashani’s designs are feminine, romantic, figure flattering. There will be the use of soft, sheer chiffons and more structured ruffles, lace and embroidery detailing. The colours will also be bright and exotic just like the designer herself.
To give you taste of the All Eyes on Us debut, Ashani “whipped up” a custom made sample dress for me as she wanted to be able to give my readers a taste of what her collection has in store at Fashfest. The dress has elements of her collection – a figure hugging design combined with soft sheer panels and skin baring cut outs. Her husband tells me she stayed up very late sewing it just for me and I was so very touched by the gesture, hope you love the dress as much as I do!
